Exit Chute for DF Series Grinders

Funnily enough, after writing a glowing review of my DF54 after several months of use I started having fussy static and clogging issues. I decided to upgrade the declumper and the chute together. The new declumper came with the intermediate plastic piece described in some of the miicoffee responses to complaints.

With the new declumper and larger chute (with terminals that protrude further into the coffee path), the antistatic feature and the distribution into the portafilter basket is dramatically improved.

I tested the new set with a really problematic old bean that was requiring a super fine grind and was making huge messes due to static and drift.

Well, well. The grinder is as good or better than new. The coffee pours out as a beautiful stream into the center of the basket with virtually no static and no signs of clogging.

This was an easy upgrade. With my particular unit, I had plenty of wire to work with after snipping. I decrimped the insulation caps by squeezing against the original crimp direction and slipped them off so I could get closer to the coupler. If I had to, I could have snipped the metal coupler as well, but as I said, I have plenty of wire in my unit, so I just made the cut.

The chute cover fit better than the original chute cover—tight, but without any need for removing material.

My happiness with this grinder is restored.

I rcv'd the product in a timely manner. It came with the new internal chute and the external cover. The chute has electrical connections that have to be remade. The original wires were not long. You need to ensure the maximum length in order to add connectors. I had some connectors that I could use, but it would have been much better for them (unknown them) to have provided the connectors. I imagine that I am the outside the norm in having these connectors laying around. The chute installation was no problem. The cover required some slight sanding of the tabs at the top in order to get it to snap in. The cover itself doesn't fit the opening as well as i think it could have. There is an uneven gap along one edge. The top has a gap of < 1/16, while the bottom has a gap of > 1/16 of an inch. I didn't try the original cover. The assumption here is that the chute has changed dimensions slightly and hence the new cover.
